Synopsis of The Holdovers

Paul (Paul Giamatti), a teacher at Barton College, a prep school, is not very popular. No matter the students, teachers or principals, they don't like him very much. They think he is pompous and rigid. During the Christmas break of 1970, Paul stayed at the school to supervise students who could not go home. After a few days, only one student remained - a 15-year-old troublemaker named Angus, a good student ruined by bad behavior and always on the verge of expulsion. Left with Paul and Angus is the school's head cook, Mary, an African-American woman who caters to the sons of the privileged, whose own son recently disappeared in Vietnam. These three disparate losers form an odd Christmas family, spending two snowy New England weeks sharing their misadventures and realizing that none of them are grateful for their past.
