Synopsis of My Way Home
The little boy Jamie (played by Stephen Archibald) grew up in a poor mining area on the outskirts of Edinburgh. He lived in a family with extreme material and emotional deprivation, and his childhood was full of painful memories. Jamie's mother was sent to a mental hospital, his grandparents were cruel, and he became increasingly gloomy and wild. Eventually, he met his friend Robert, a young middle-class British man, through the National Service Agency. Gradually, the boy was inspired by art, which saved his life. Robert introduces the new book to Jamie, and through his friendship with Robert, Jamie becomes optimistic while he also reframes his expectations for the future. Bill Douglas's trilogy (My Childhood, My Kindred, and All the Way Home) details the coming of age of a young boy. The raw emotion captured in these three films is astonishing. The camera position and shooting techniques are obviously influenced by Du Furenko, Fei Mu and Ozu Yasujiro. Douglas's autobiographical films have won the Berlin Film Festival Grand Prix three times, as well as the Venice Silver Lion, the British Writers Guild Award and the Sutherland County Award.
