Synopsis of Back to 1942

In 1942, the Anti-Japanese War and the Second World War were at a fever pitch. A prairie fire has devastated all living beings, natural and man-made disasters have caused mourning all over the land. While military strategists and politicians focused their attention on the conquest and plunder of one city and one country, few people noticed that a tragic drought was erupting in Henan, the ancient Central Plains. The protagonist of the film, his old boss (played by Zhang Guoli), is a cunning, philistine, and typical feudal landowner. But even so, he was unable to resist this unprecedented disaster. He was forced to flee and witnessed the various deaths of his son, daughter-in-law, wife and other relatives. His experience is the epitome of the three million disaster victims. Faced with the suffering of this group of people, whether it is the aloof Chairman Chiang Kai-shek (played by Chen Daoming) or the American journalist Bai Xiude (Adrian Blau) who goes deep into the people to report the truth of the disaster. (played by Adrien Brody), and everyone at home and abroad, how can they look away from this scene of hell on earth? The hopeless road to escape is endless, and the misery of the Chinese nation's ill-fated fate is evident... This film is adapted from Liu Zhenyun's novel "Reviewing the Past 1942".
