Synopsis of How to Survive a Plague

In the 1980s and 1990s, AIDS spread like a plague, claiming the lives of more than 40 million people. A group of young and brave gays and lesbians who fight for their rights with strong beliefs and actions. By taking to the streets to demonstrate, attacking government agencies, infiltrating scientific research, and participating in clinical experiments, they sacrificed their youth and even their lives to successfully change society's value perception, find effective drugs and treatments, and help the new generation of AIDS patients. The patient was spared a death sentence. This film is almost entirely edited from historical images of the year and is director David France's first film. "A Guide to Surviving a Plague" won the 2012 Gotham Award for Best Documentary and was shortlisted for the 85th Academy Award for Best Documentary.
