Synopsis of Prayers for Bobby

This film is adapted from a true story. Bobby (Ryan Kelley) is a kind, devout teenager with a family who loves him. But everything changed after he confessed his sexuality to his family. Mother Mary (Sigourney Weaver) believes that homosexuals will go to hell, and tries her best to correct her son. And Bobby's pain is increasing day by day. Before his 20th birthday, Bobby met David, a cheerful young man, but Mary refused to accept it and was ashamed of having a gay son. Bobby left home sadly and finally chose death to end his inner torture. His death completely awakened the family, especially Mary. In her endless regret, she began to contact the gay people, participated in the PFLAG group, and discussed biblical interpretation with clergy. After reading her son's diary, she came face to face with her identification with him. The mother who lost her son cried bitterly in the pouring rain. The rain and tears washed away the stubbornness, prejudice and incomprehension. Mary devoted her life to the cause of gay rights and helping teenagers like Bobby.
