# Synopsis of South Pacific

1.Ocean Island Their extraordinary isolation has produced some of the most bizarre, stunning and precarious examples of existence found nowhere else on Earth, from giant crabs tearing out coconuts to carnivorous caterpillars pinning their prey in dagger-like claws. Human civilization is also different. People on Pentecost Island celebrate their annual harvest by leaping from tall wooden scaffolding, using only jungle vines to break their fall. On the tiny island of Enfuta, perhaps the most remote human society on Earth, the locals rely entirely on their crops and hunting for survival. 2. Drifter There is no such thing as a desert island in the South Pacific. They may be the most remote on earth, but each of the more than 20,000 islands has been colonized, from New Guinea, home to birds of paradise, where tribes' barbaric coming-of-age rituals turn young warriors into crocodile men, to Fiji, French Boli Nisi and Hawaii. This is the story of the last castaways, from saltwater crocodiles and giant eels to crested iguanas and strange frogs, who risk everything to reach islands thousands of miles away in order to succeed. These journeys are great feats. It is estimated that only one species reaches Hawaii every 60,000 years. It's hard to believe that so many pioneers arriving were hit by Mother Nature like tornadoes and tsunamis one after another...
