Synopsis of Port of Shadows

Jean (Jean Gabin) became a deserter after World War II. On a foggy night, he hitched a ride and rescued a puppy, which followed him to this seaside town. The pier of the small town is filled with fog all day long, and the sky market is full of depression. Jean meets the beautiful Nellie (Michèle Morgan) here, and the two gradually fall in love, but Jean has to face his own fate of fleeing. Nellie's guardian Zabel killed her ex-boyfriend Maurice, and Nellie couldn't bear his possessiveness and discipline and ran away from home. During a meeting with Nellie, Jean got into trouble with the local underworld member Lucien (Pierre Brasseur). Lucien coveted Nellie's beauty and has been pursuing the whereabouts of Maurice. At the critical moment when Nellie returned home and faced Zabel's crazy invasion, Jean appeared in time and killed the despicable businessman. The two walked together on the streets of Fog Pier.
