Dallas Buyers Club

Synopsis of Dallas Buyers Club

In 1986, in Dallas, USA, the homophobic Texas electrician Ron Woodruff (played by Matthew McConaughey) discovered that he was suffering from the "gay disease"-AIDS, and had only 30 days left to live. The AZT (azidothymidine) he used was the only anti-AIDS drug approved by the FDA at the time, but it was extremely toxic. In order to survive, Ron began researching various anti-AIDS prescriptions and alternative therapies, and even smuggled unapproved drugs from around the world. With the help of doctor Sachs (Jennifer Garner) and transvestite Raymond (Jared Leto), Ron began to set up an underground organization called "Dallas Buyers Club" to fight for AIDS. He provided more "unconventional therapies" and many sick gay men also sought help from him. Naturally, his move was obstructed and pressured by the FDA and drug companies. Ron finally died in September 1992, 2,557 days after he was told he had only 30 days to live. In the past seven years, he has been unremittingly fighting against the disease, the FDA and pharmaceutical manufacturers...
