Synopsis of Cluny Brown

Lubitsch's posthumous work, his brushstrokes have been perfected. The orphan girl wants to follow in her uncle's footsteps and become a plumber, but she is incompatible with the British society that emphasizes class and distinction between men and women. The Polish poet who escaped from the clutches of the Nazis discovered her as if he had found a kindred spirit, but at this time she ran to work as a maid and planned to marry into an ordinary gentleman's family like a normal person. After coming to the United States for more than 20 years, Lubitsch summed up his situation. Although the characters in the film, from the nobles to the servants, have ridiculous faces, they are not hateful. Instead, they all have a touch of humanity. Perhaps this is the highest level of Lubitsch's writing. What's even more amazing is that these strokes seem to be integrated into the two protagonists, and they can inadvertently communicate with the audience.
