Synopsis of Tokyo Trial
In the spring of 1946, the "Tokyo Trial" was held to adjudicate Japanese war criminals. Judges from eleven victorious countries gathered at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. The focus of the trial was the "war crimes" that emerged with the Nuremberg Trials. The act of "war", which was previously considered legal under international law, was recognized as a criminal act for the first time, and national leaders were held accountable. As for the term "war crimes", the defense believes that it is an ex post facto law and refuses to admit it. In the court, the judges also had opposing opinions. The trial, which was originally intended to be resolved in a short time, turned out to be long-term and chaotic.
