Synopsis of The Whale

The film is adapted from the play of the same name created by Samuel D. Hunter. In a dilapidated apartment in rural Idaho, the 272-kilogram English teacher Charlie (played by Brendan Fraser) lives in seclusion and stubbornly and resolutely decides to... Eat yourself to death. Charlie abandoned his family for a same-sex lover in middle age, but after his lover passed away, he overeated due to grief and guilt, and tried to repair his relationship with his 17-year-old daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink). As Charlie gets closer to his inevitable fate, he enlists the help of his friends Liz (Hong Zhou), a cynical atheist nurse, and Elder Thomas (Ty Simpkins), a young preacher Shidu tried to find in Charlie the will to be saved, whether physically or mentally. However, only Charlie's estranged daughter Ellie can let him see a future beyond his current state of despair. Although Ellie is bitter, full of hatred, and full of thorns, Charlie can find in her one last chance at redemption. Maybe even a glimmer of hope.
