Synopsis of Whispering Pages
A man walks into a dark world, walking like a sleepwalker through mausoleum-like doorways and coffin-like rooms. Sometimes, the sounds are as subtle as the air floating in the ears; sometimes, they are overwhelming and violent. People kill people and sacrifice people, but where is God? What are the crimes and punishments of these people? Through exquisite control of light and shadow, this ocher and brown world almost breaks the boundaries between black and white and color. It is poetic and meditative, emphasizing Alexander Sugunov's unique experimental style. With his deep reflections on life, it is no surprise that many film critics regard him as Tarkovsky's successor. The nameless "hero" of "The Whispering Pages" is, in some ways, reminiscent of Tarkovsky's "Andrei Rublev". Hans-Jochin Schrager commented: The slow, contemplative pace of this film is not about the action, but the invisible "inner performance" and the visible "whispering pages". The purpose is to make the audience think deeply about the eternal theme of "crime and punishment", while also touching on the social and religious significance of life.
