Synopsis of The Sword of Doom
During the late Tokugawa period, the situation was turbulent and undercurrents were surging. The Koshu samurai Jiryunosuke (played by Tatsuya Nakadai) has excellent swordsmanship, but has an evil and dark heart. On the eve of a swordsmanship competition, the wife of his opponent Utsuki Fuminojo (played by Ichiro Nakatani), Ahama (played by Shinju Michiyo), begged him to lose to her husband, even committing herself to him. However, in the duel the next day, Ryunosuke still killed Wen Zhicheng with an absolute advantage. After that, he and the divorced Abin left Koshu and wandered around the world. Two years later, he joined the Shinsengumi as a killer and killed the rebels for the shogunate. During this period, Bunnosei's younger brother Hyōma (played by Kayama Yuzo) also came to Edo and became a disciple of the swordsman Shimada Toranosuke (played by Toshiro Mifune), waiting for the opportunity to avenge his brother. The fateful encounter is inevitable... This film is adapted from the original work of the same name by Nakazato Keishan, titled "Katsugen Itto-ryu no Volume - 03 Mibu and Shimabara No Volume". The novel was serialized in newspapers for 23 years and is called "the longest historical novel in the world."
