Synopsis of Court
Best film in the Horizon section of the 71st Venice Film Festival. A Mumbai sewer worker was found dead at his workplace. The cause of death was a song? The 65-year-old folk singer and activist was accused of inciting others to commit suicide through his songs. As the case unfolds, the life experiences of the deceased and the defendant are revealed, and even the private lives of lawyers and judges are criticized. The first film written and directed by Xinzha is based on the real story. It uses fresh film language and absurd plots and dialogues to reveal that the rule of law is actually the rule of man. It also examines how family background and class establish different values and achieve different societies.
