Synopsis of Once Upon a Time in Shanghai

The ten-mile foreign market in Shanghai is a paradise for countless people to pursue their dreams... Ma Yongzhen (played by Wu Yunlong), a young man with natural supernatural powers, came to Shanghai from his hometown to make a living. He found a hard job under the rule of the Ax Gang, an old gang that occupied half of Shanghai's sphere of influence at that time. Unexpectedly, because his companions stole the opium from the Ax Gang, when the latter attacked, he and Lao Tie (played by Sammo Hung) who lived in the slums rescued the workers. In order to track down the whereabouts of the opium, Ma Yongzhen and the other half of the owners of Shanghai's sphere of influence ——The newly rising Long Qi (An Zhijie) has no acquaintance with him before, and because he was squeezed out by the Ax Gang, he and his companions had to defect to Long Qi. Following his mother's teachings, Ma Yongzhen had no intention of joining Long Qi's gang, but Long Qi didn't take it seriously and instead became close friends with him. Soon, the real owner of that batch of opium, the Japanese, took advantage of the contradiction between the Ax Gang and Long Qi to kill Long Qi, Lao Tie and others in order to intervene in Shanghai. Ma Yongzhen couldn't bear it and vowed to take revenge...
