Synopsis of What Goes Up

The story takes place in the United States in the 1980s. Campbell (played by Steve Coogan) is a reporter working for the New York Newspaper. Not long ago, his lover committed suicide, leaving Campbell unable to get out of the shadows and feeling tired at work. This caused dissatisfaction with the editor-in-chief. The editor sent him to a remote town to cover small news that no one cared about. Campbell remembered that his former college classmate Sam was a teacher here and decided to visit him. Later, he was shocked to learn that Sam passed away not long ago. Campbell decided that Sam's death was not as simple as it seemed, so he decided to use this as reporting material and follow up the investigation in depth. After thoroughly integrating into Sam's circle of friends, Campbell finally discovered the secret that Sam had tried so hard to hide and the real cause of his death.
