Synopsis of By the Time It Gets Dark

In a remote and quiet house, the film director set up a camera to interview a middle-aged woman, hoping to get inspiration for the script because she participated in the student movement that was brutally suppressed by the Thai government in 1976. The movie seems normal at first, with images going back and forth between the present and the past. However, the simple narrative gradually fragmented, a glowing blue mushroom, a girl who kept changing jobs, an actor, and an actress, the line between reality and reality was blurred, and there was a movie within the movie... Thai director Anochasuwi Chakampeng, who won the Rotterdam Golden Tiger Award for "A Seemingly Ordinary Story," is his latest work after seven years. Boldly abandoning the protagonist and plot, on a timeline that is both static and forward, Zhiyi uses the magic of film to recreate memory and history, stacking up layers of surprising secrets like Russian dolls. What remains is the sadness that will return forever. What cannot be landed is history that has been silenced.
