Synopsis of Lilies of the Field

The film depicts Homer, a young black man with a low status. Smith was enthusiastic about helping some fleeing East German nuns and promised to build a chapel for them... thus demonstrating his human beauty. The film touches on the most sensitive nerve in the United States - the black issue, and received mixed reactions from the beginning. Poitier's delicate performance is even more eye-catching. He won the 36th Academy Award for Best Actor and became a Hollywood superstar.
