Fiddler on the Roof

Synopsis of Fiddler on the Roof

In a Russian village during the Tsarist dictatorship, farmer Tevye (played by Topol) lives with his wife and daughter in a Ukrainian Jewish neighborhood. Although he often endures discrimination from non-Jewish residents, he has always adhered to traditional life. A poor Russian young man Fedka came to the village. Tevey appreciated his talent and hired him as a tutor. Gradually, various things emerged that challenged his traditional philosophy. He wanted to marry his eldest daughter Terra to a rich butcher, but Terra fell in love with the poor tailor Mert. The two lovers insisted on being together, and Tevye had to compromise and accept their marriage. The second daughter Eve fell in love with the tutor Fidka. Tevey categorically opposed the love between two people of different faiths and severed ties with his daughter for this reason. When he and the villagers were driven out of the village by the tsar, Tevye's family was preparing to take refuge with his uncle living in New York. They met their daughter Eve and her husband who were also on the run. In their sincere begging, Tevye gave up everything he had. He followed the traditional philosophy and forgave his daughter for going out of line. For him, leaving here means abandoning tradition and starting a new life. The film won the 44th Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound, and Best Score. ...
