Synopsis of The Small Town
This film is told from the perspective of two children, using the change of seasons as a clue, and tells a family story set in a Turkish town in four paragraphs. The first paragraph of the story shows a family whose 11-year-old daughter is in elementary school. She is not used to facing the ruthless social reality and the cruel harm that life has dealt her, but she must learn to adapt. The second section takes place in spring. The girl and her brother, who is four years younger than him, go to the cornfield, where their families are waiting for them. As they walked through the cornfields, they seemed to realize the mystery of nature and wilderness. In the third paragraph, the siblings witnessed the complexity and darkness of the adult world. The last section takes place at home, where dreams and reality intersect peacefully. The film is based on the director's personal memories and confessions, supplemented by a large number of natural framing and fixed shots. It can be seen that Ceylon's iconic directorial style has begun to take shape. An old couple has been separated for a long time due to an indelible painful experience in the past. After being apart for many years, they finally met again one day, intending to have a frank talk in the hope that time could mend the emotional rift. But this conversation, which was supposed to make up for the pain, didn't go as they expected.
