Synopsis of American Dreams in China
In the 1980s, three young people with enthusiasm and dreams met on the campus of Yanjing University, a higher education institution, and began their thirty-year journey of friendship and dreams. Meng Xiaojun (played by Deng Chao), who was born in a family that studied abroad, is eager to stand on American soil and change the world. The romantic and free Wang Yang (played by Tong Dawei) enjoys the vigorous and exciting youthful atmosphere in the early days of reform and opening up. A rural youth who has failed the college entrance examination twice has grown up. Dongqing (played by Huang Xiaoming) studied hard with Xiaojun as his goal, and gained a beautiful love. However, among the three friends, only Xiaojun finally obtained a U.S. visa. The huge gap between reality and dreams caused Dongqing and Wang Yang to be hit hard. By chance, Dongqing, who was fired from public office, opened an English training school with the help of Wang Yang and began to taste the joy of success. Xiaojun, who did not develop well in the United States, returned to China and joined the school, which undoubtedly promoted the three friends to take a big step towards their dreams. But with the advent of success, their friendship also began to undergo severe tests...
