Synopsis of King of the Belgians
King Nicholas III of Belgium visited Turkey, and the queen hired documentary director Duncan to accompany him to film, hoping to change the king's dull image. However, this seemingly ordinary foreign affairs trip turned into an unexpected adventure for the group. During a foreign affairs visit, the Walloon region of Belgium suddenly declared independence. The king and his party immediately decided to return home, but unexpectedly, a solar storm over Turkey prevented flights across the country from taking off. The king, who was eager to return home, decided to take the risk and entered the Balkans, known as the "Powder Keg of Europe", and began an arduous journey back home. The troubles that ensued, the funny and witty dialogues, and the king who gradually "let himself go" during the journey were all recorded by Duncan's lens and made into a bold, humorous and unique "documentary".
