The Big Parade

Synopsis of The Big Parade

At the end of World War I, the United States sent troops to Europe to fight. Jim (played by John Gilbert), a wealthy boy, also joined the army. In the army, he quickly became friends with Slim, a construction worker, and Bull, a bartender. The troops landed in France and were stationed in a small village. There, Jim met the French village girl Mélisande (played by Renée Adori), and the two quickly fell in love. Soon, the troops were ordered to the front line, and Jim was forced to leave. Melisande chases after the military truck, and Jim takes off his military boots and throws them to her to express his love for her. On the front line, there was intensive artillery fire. Jim, Slim and Bull were very anxious hiding in the shell crater. After drawing lots, Slim rushed out of the pit to deal with the enemy's cannon. The gunfire stopped, but Slim never returned. Jim was very worried and searched among the enemy lines, and sure enough he found Slim's body. The U.S. military launched a large-scale counterattack, and Jim fought bravely, but was admitted to a field hospital after being shot in the leg. There, he heard that Melisande's village was in danger, so he sneaked out of the hospital and rushed to the village, only to find that the place was in ruins...
