Synopsis of The Ghost Bride

When Netflix announced the launch of its new Chinese film "The Marriage of the Other Side" (the movie version of the novel "The Ghost Bride"), it also released a preview trailer. Starring Wu Kangren ("Termites: The Mystery Web of Desire" and "Next Stop, Happiness"), Huang Peijia ("Bao Mi Cha Cha"), and Lin Ludi ("Aquaman") appear, giving a strong sense of the times. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Chinese-American writer Zhu Yangxi, the story mixes Chinese folk customs such as ghost marriage with romantic love and supernatural elements. Set in Malacca during the colonial period in the 1890s, it tells the story of Li Lan, the daughter of a respectable Chinese family, who is asked to be the "ghost bride" of the wealthy Lin family because of her family's financial difficulties - marrying the family's dead son. She can have enough food and clothing, but marrying a dead man will follow her for the rest of her life, making it even more difficult to escape. After that, Lilan was drawn into the underworld, discovered the dark secrets of her "husband's family", and also discovered the past of her own family. Directed by Malaysian directors Guo Xiuzhuan ("Light") and He Yuheng ("Ms. K"). The screenwriting team comes from Hollywood and Taiwan, led by WuKaiYu, one of the screenwriters of "Hannibal" and "The Flash". The launch date has not yet been determined.
