Synopsis of In the Family
Chip (Sebastian Banes) is a precocious six-year-old boy. He has two dads: Cody (Trevor St. John) and Joey (Patrick Wang). A family of three lives in the peaceful countryside of Tennessee, USA. When Cody died in a car accident, Joey had no choice but to face life hard. But just as his new life begins, he learns that Cody appointed his sister as Chip's guardian in his unupdated will. After Joey took Chip to Cody's sister's house during the Thanksgiving holiday, he never saw his children again. For this reason, Joey embarked on a long and desperate road to fight for custody. This film raises issues of race, class and gender from another perspective, making people reflect on the relationship between tradition and family. It is the debut film written, directed and starred by Chinese-American filmmaker Wang Peizhi. It was shortlisted for the 2012 American Independent Spirit Award. A touching masterpiece about love and family.
