Synopsis of The Glass Rabbit

The story describes Toshiko and her family living in the center of Tokyo during the late World War II. At that time, Japan was on the verge of defeat. The people were devastated by the ruthless war and were in dire straits. People's livelihood supplies were extremely scarce. The men of many families have been recruited by the government to fight for the country, leaving only the old, weak, women and children to guard their dilapidated homes. ​ On March 10, 1945, Toshiko's mother and two younger sisters were killed in a bombing in Tokyo. Toshiko, who suddenly lost her loved one, returned to her dilapidated home one day and picked up a "Glass Rabbit" that had been deformed by the flames of war, which made her realize the horror and ruthlessness of war. ​ When she was forced to evacuate to the suburbs, her father was killed by the US military on the way to the station. The young Toshiko lost her loved ones overnight and had to take care of her father's funeral independently. Toshiko was alone. I feel very lonely and have no love in my life. But as long as she recalls those relatives who died in the war, she can only let go of her loneliness and sadness and cheer up... However, the ruthlessness and cruelty of war are often attached to people's selfish desires and wrong choices...
