Synopsis of This Sporting Life

Frank (Richard Harris) is a miner with well-developed limbs and a simple mind, who is deeply in love with a widow named Hammond (Rachel Roberts). For Mrs. Hammond, Frank joined the rugby team and showed amazing talent on the field. His boss was willing to pay him 1,000 pounds to continue playing. With the money, Frank bought a car and took Mrs. Hammond and her family out for an outing. Unexpectedly, he said the wrong thing in his head. Not only did Mrs. Hammond feel sad because she thought of her late husband, but she also felt bad for her. Frank resented him and avoided him. Frank missed Mrs. Hammond very much and decided to go to her home to find her. However, when he arrived, he learned that Mrs. Hammond had died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
