Synopsis of Yes Minister Season 3
This play tells the story of Jim Hacker, a shadow cabinet member of the opposition party, who gets the job of minister of the Department of Civil Service (DAA) after helping his party win the general election. Bernard was caught in the middle. Amid the various conflicts over policy implementation between the politicians represented by Hacker and the civil servants represented by Appleby, the relationship between the two is constantly changing, with some covering each other's backs and others exposing each other's background. At the same time, various shortcomings and shady secrets in the British political system (including the political party system and the civil service system) that are unknown to outsiders are also revealed to the audience. Of course all of this is played out with lots of comedy and one-liners. In the second half of the series, "Yes Prime Minister", Hacker became Prime Minister through intra-party wrangling, and Appleby was already Prime Minister's secretary before him. The story of the two moved to 10 Downing Street to continue to unfold.
