Synopsis of Fires Were Started
An account of a night spent by a fire-fighting team during the air raids on wartime London, "is a surprising and deeply intimate portrait of an isolated and beleaguered Britain". As firefighters risk their lives as they battle throughout the night, the film eschews intense patriotism in favor of a satirical, poetic gaze.
