Synopsis of Magnificent Obsession

Bob (Rock Hudson) is a playboy who spends his time doing nothing. One time while taking a submarine to sea, Bob encountered a shipwreck. The police brought the only artificial respirator in the town and saved Bob. But Philip, the director of the hospital, fell ill at the same time and died because he did not have a respirator. After learning the news, Bob felt very guilty and decided to devote all his money to helping Philip's widow Helen (Jane Wyman). However, Philip's kindness unexpectedly made Helen blind. Bob accompanies the blind Helen incognito. Without knowing Bob's true identity, Helen gradually develops a liking for Bob. In the end, Bob revealed his identity and hoped that Helen could marry him. After learning the truth, Helen chose to leave.
