Synopsis of Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway

The rock musical "Rent" became the seventh longest-running play in Broadway history on March 1, 2006, and won recognition from the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize. The musical, adapted from Puccini's opera "La Boheme," focuses on a group of impoverished artists and musicians who, even in the shadow of AIDS (in the case of "La Boheme," it was tuberculosis) Struggling to survive in Alphabet City, New York. The soundtrack of this musical is the most successful recording in the American musical theater industry in the past thirty years. It has a two-disc complete version, including a remixed version of "Seasons of Love" sung by Stevie Wonder, and a A collection of singles only. "Rent" is the first Broadway musical to bring issues such as homosexuality, bisexuality, and transgender issues to the stage. Previously, any production that touched on these issues was classified as Off-Broadway (only "A Cage of Stupid Birds" "exception). This film is a live recording of the last Broadway show of Rent on September 7, 2008.
