Synopsis of Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker
Focusing on the first self-made black female millionaire in the United States and the beauty and hairdressing industry tycoon C.J. Walker a hundred years ago. The daughter of slaves, she was orphaned at age 7, married at 14, widowed at 20, and worked as a laundress for 20 years. In the process, she invented a revolutionary hair shampoo product suitable for black women's hair, and established an industrial empire that provided beauty and health products for black women. The play will show how she overcomes difficult factors such as society, chaotic family and chaos, and goes from poverty to building an industry. It is adapted from the book "On Our Own Ground" written by Walker's great-great-granddaughter A'Lelia Bundles, who will also serve as a series consultant. Cass Lemmons ("Dark Birth", "Luke Cage") directed and produced the first episode, and Nicole Asher wrote the script, with a total of 8 episodes.
