Synopsis of When They Cry: Higurashi

Hinamizawa is a secluded village surrounded by mountains. The simple folk customs have allowed this ancient village to retain the sacrificial customs of the ancestors, called Mianliu. One summer in Showa 58, this village welcomed a new resident: young Keiichi Maehara (voiced by Soichiro Hoshi). The new environment makes Keiichi somewhat difficult to adapt to, but after getting acquainted with the gentle Reina Ryugu (voiced by Mai Nakahara), the lively Meiyin Sonozaki (voiced by Yukino Satsuki), and the weak-looking but strong-hearted Satoko Hojo (voiced by Mika Kanai) ) and Fute Rika (voiced by Tamura Yurika), a new life soon began in full swing. As time passed, the annual Mianliu memorial ceremony was about to begin. However, during this bustling occasion, Keiichi heard some unknown stories about Hinamizawa, as well as the disappearance of one person caused by the Mianliu memorial ceremony over the years. A horrific incident called "Kamiyaku" in which one person died. Are these rumors false or true? Is the simple and happy life in the past true or false? As an "outsider", Keiichi Maehara unexpectedly gradually got closer to the truth of a major incident.
