Synopsis of Chicken with Plums

Because his wife broke his beloved violin, musician Naser Ali (played by Mathieu Amalric) decided to commit suicide. He finally died after eight days of hunger strike. During these eight days, lying in bed, he reviewed his life. He thought of his childhood with his brother, his daughter and son, his failed marriage, and the scene before his mother died. Of course, he also thought of the love of his life-Ilana (Golshifteh Farahani). When he was young, his musical attainments were not high and he was evaluated by his teacher as having only technique but no emotion. Once, he met the beautiful Ilana in a watch store. From then on, his destiny changed direction, and he and Ilana experienced an unforgettable love. However, as fate would have it, he and Ilana eventually separated... "The Taste of Chicken with Plums" is adapted from the picture book by director Marjane Satrapi. The prototype of the protagonist is the director's uncle, a famous Iranian musician.
