The Woodsman and the Rain

Synopsis of The Woodsman and the Rain

The quiet mountain village enters the rainy season. The old lumberjack Kishi Katsuhiko (played by Hiroji Yakusho) in the village is old-fashioned and has a tense relationship with his son. On his way to work, he led the new director Koichi Tanabe (played by Shun Oguri) and his assistant director from Tokyo, and was pulled into the location shooting of a zombie movie. After being forced to act as an extra, Katsuhiko actually developed a subtle interest in movies. He began to help the film crew communicate with the villagers and carry out work uninvited, even ignoring his job and the anniversary of his wife's death. The sudden intrusion of the film crew disrupted the peace of the mountain village and Katsuhiko's life, and also changed the director Koichi himself. Xing Yisheng is shy and lacks self-confidence, and has no authority among the film crew. Occasionally, he discovered that his zombie script was actually appreciated by Katsuhiko, and he couldn't help but be inspired. The two had wonderful communication during several bathing times. With Katsuhiko's help, Koichi gradually built up his confidence, and the filming was on track. However, before the shutdown, a heavy rain once again put the filming into crisis, and Katsuhiko's absence also made Sachi panicked... The film won the Jury Prize at the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival. The two leading actors in the film, Koji Hiroshi and Shun Oguri, have also served as directors in real life.
