Synopsis of The Major and the Minor

Applegate (Ginger Rogers), who went to New York to prospect for gold, was completely tired of the city after experiencing several short-term jobs. In her eyes, men are just a group of frivolous scoundrels. But when she bought a train ticket to return to her hometown, she found that she couldn't afford a full ticket. In desperation, she dressed up as a little girl and got on the train with half a ticket. In order to avoid the conductor's ticket inspection, Applegate hid in a sleeper car and met Major Bryant (Ray Milland). The young major regarded her as a child and treated her in a gentle and innocent way. Unfortunately, she was misunderstood by her fiancée Pamela. He had to temporarily stay at the military academy with the major to clear up the misunderstanding. During this period, the teenage military academy cadets made a series of jokes about the "girl" Applegate, and the friendship between the major and Applegate gradually grew. The time of separation has arrived, how will the two treat this relationship? This film is the directorial debut of screenwriter Billy Wilder.
