Synopsis of Twentieth Century

On Broadway in New York, theater director Oscar Jaffe (played by John Barrymore) makes actress Lily Garland (played by Carole Lombard) popular. The two become Broadway box office guarantees and are also a couple. After three years of cooperation, Lily secretly went to Hollywood to act in a movie because she couldn't stand Oscar's excessive interference in her personal life. Oscar was furious and hired a new actress. Unfortunately, it was a poor box office success and left Chicago in debt. On the 20th Century train from Chicago back to New York, Oscar happened to be on the same train as Lily. Oscar tried to win back Lily, whether it was love or acting, but Lily already had another lover and was not interested in cooperating with Oscar again. There happened to be a rich man on the train who was not very smart. Oscar used this rich man to write him a check and tried to use this check to get Lily to sign an acting contract.
