Synopsis of Stonehearst Asylum

Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess), a psychiatrist and scholar who claims to be from Oxford University, came to the remote Stonehurst Mental Hospital. He hopes to follow the accomplished Silas... Professor Lyme (played by Ben Kingsley) learns related treatment methods. Silas looked gloomy, and the treatment methods he used were very different from those popular at the time, but it seemed that the patients' mental conditions had been relieved and recovered to a certain extent. During this period, Edward was attracted to the beautiful and dignified lady Elisa Glover (Kate Beckinsale), who suffered from psychogenic hysteria. Edward, who had just arrived, was vaguely aware of the strangeness of this hospital, and he soon discovered the terrifying and shocking secret behind the hospital... The film is adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Therapy of Dr. Tarr and Professor Feather."
