Synopsis of A Dog Called Money

It tells the creative process of a PJ Harvey record. Writer and musician Harvey teams up with award-winning photographer Seamus Murphy. Harvey wanted to write about several countries in her work, and in order to experience life in those countries firsthand, she and Murphy went on several of his global reporting trips. Together they traveled to Afghanistan, Kosovo and Washington. Harvey recorded the text and Murphy took the photos. After returning, they worked together to turn the material into poetry, songs, and recorded the material into an album in an unprecedented format at Somerset House in London. In a house made of one-way glass, the public can watch the five-week recording process without taking pictures. Murphy filmed the experiment as part of their private travel notes. The film uses the impact of the people and places they captured during their travels as material, with the embodiment of humanity at its core, and tells the story of how this material was transformed into song and film.
