Casting Blossoms to the Sky

Synopsis of Casting Blossoms to the Sky

Reiko Endo (played by Yasuko Matsuyuki), a reporter who works for a local newspaper in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, is about to go to Nagaoka City, located in the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture, for an interview. There are three main reasons for this interview. First of all, Reiko has personally experienced the 2004 Sino-Vietnam earthquake. In 2011, she was one of the first reporters to enter Nagaoka City, one of the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. In addition, she received an email from Nagaoka. Shangu Zhicun’s letter was a major motivation for this trip. The sender's name is Katayama Kenichi (played by Takashima Masahiro), and he is Reiko's old lover who has lost contact for many years. Katayama said, "We can still catch up with the 'war' now" and asked Reiko to come and watch the performance as soon as possible. The so-called performance refers to Nagaoka's famous fireworks show. However, this performance was not prepared for a festival, but was specially designed to pray for the people who died in the air raids and earthquakes during World War II. It also infused the living people's good expectations for revival. . The colorful fireworks and the profound meaning behind them strongly attracted Reiko to embark on the journey. In the summer of 2011, Reiko finally came to Nagaoka. Different people and scenery bring her more novel experiences. Intertwined with the history and culture of Nagaoka, the door to a better future slowly opens...
