Synopsis of The Stand-In

Drew Barrymore and Michael Zegen ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "Boardwalk Empire") will star in the romantic drama "The Stand-In", directed by Jamie Babbit ("Silicon Valley", "Sisters") . Barrymore plays two roles. It tells the story of Candy, a has-been movie star who was arrested for tax evasion and hired Paula, an unemployed stand-in who admired her, to do community service on her behalf. The two develop a strange interdependence, with the star increasingly using the double to stand in for herself in order to escape the pressures of fame. In the end, Paula replaced Candy's identity, career and even boyfriend, and kicked Candy out of her home. Candy is forced to survive in the real world for the first time, and Paula lives her dream life of celebrity until her boyfriend discovers the truth. Zegen plays Steve, an aspiring novelist and online dater. Steve's relationship with Candy is only online. He has never met Candy. When they finally meet, Steve finds himself trapped in a triangle. Love, torn between the former movie star and her body double...
