Synopsis of The Cobweb

The plot mainly revolves around the conflict that arises when new curtains need to be installed in the hospital library. The dean’s wife wants her to decide on the pattern to highlight her status. The director of the textile company is prudent and hopes to save money. The dean himself finds a man with the ability to commit suicide. New patients tend to design curtains. The film is set in a mental hospital and is about a sea of people. Although the content is not as crazy as the Chinese title, it is somewhat ironic, as if the hospital employees are more neurotic than the patients there! Vincent, the director who has always been good at making musicals. In this ensemble drama adapted from the novel, Minnelli uses a relatively lengthy and low-key approach to reflect some of the trivial life events and romantic relationships that occur in the hospital. The dramatic tension seems a bit loose, but it is composed of a group of veteran stars. The large lineup is still quite impressive.
