Synopsis of Mimosas

In order to fulfill the wish of the elderly imam to die and return to his hometown, two gangsters took on the task of returning the body to their hometown. After a devout believer unexpectedly joined the team, the journey took a strange turn. The plot unfolds like an ordinary road movie, integrating narratives from African folk beliefs and Islamic religious perspectives. The simple and restrained plot brings a poetic narrative like "Roadside Picnic" to this shadowy walk in North Africa. The bold use of light and shadow and the extremely low-level shooting of barren mountains and rivers make this Western movie like an African continent, based on religious character settings, but it breaks away from rigid religious discussions and turns into a deeper story about faith and soul. The exploration leads to a universal fable.
