The Fog of War

Synopsis of The Fog of War

Robert McNamara was an American field commander during World War II, the first non-Ford family president of Ford Motor Company, and the Secretary of Defense in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. Documentary director Errol Morris filmed the documentary "The Fog of War" through nearly 24 hours of interviews, reviewing McNamara's life, especially his assistance to General Curtis LeMay in the war against Tokyo and others during World War II. The devastating mass fire bombing of 67 Japanese cities helped the Kennedy administration respond to the Cuban missile incident and negotiate the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam before President Kennedy's assassination. Morris summarized 11 lessons from McNamara, which have important guiding significance for how future governments handle military disputes and how to prevent the occurrence of devastating nuclear wars. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Best Documentary Award.
