Synopsis of M. Butterfly

In 1964, while watching an opera, Gao Zhenni (Jeremy Irons), the accountant of the French Embassy in China, was fascinated by Madama Butterfly on the stage. After the play, he took the initiative to show his affection to the Peking Opera actress Song Liling, who played Madama Butterfly. Contact again and again made two lonely hearts fall in love with each other. However, the good times did not last long. The Cultural Revolution broke out and there was no news about Song Liling. In 1968, Song Liling came to France and reunited with Gao Zhenni. Years later, when Gao Zhenni was accused of being a spy, it was Song Liling in a suit and tie who stood on the witness stand. Gozhenni, who refers to men as women, became the laughing stock of all France. How will these two men face each other and their love?
