Synopsis of When They See Us

"Colored Glasses" is adapted from a true story that caused a sensation across the United States. The film tells the story of a notorious injustice: five teenagers known as the "Central Park Five" were wrongly convicted of rape. The four-episode limited series will focus on five Harlem teenagers: Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Ko Lee Wise. The story begins in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the rape. The entire story will span 25 years, culminating in their final acquittal in 2002 and their settlement with New York City in 2014. "Rose Glasses" is created by Ava DuVernay, who also co-wrote and directed the four-episode series. DuVernay will be joined by ParticipantMedia’s Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, HarpoFilms’ Oprah Winfrey, Tribeca Productions’ Jane Rosenthal, Berry Welsh and Robert De Niro.
