Synopsis of The Temptations

The film is adapted from the memoirs of Otis Williams, the last surviving member of the Temptations' five founding members. It tells the story of the friendship, joy, grief, betrayal and death of the five boys who came together because of their interests. They achieved success after going through hardships, but after success they sank, chasing fame and fortune, womanizing, taking drugs, and even quarreling over who was the center of the band. They were jealous, slandered, and the Temptation band also experienced splits, several combinations, and decline. During this process, some of the five founding members committed suicide, some died of illness, and some died of drug overdose. At the end of the film, at Melvin Franklin's funeral, "America's greatest living poet" Smokey Robinson sang a black spiritual song - Really Gonna Miss You. In the sad songs, after the dust has settled, something other than music can always be chewed out, perhaps a new appreciation of life and success. A good movie always makes people think and want to watch it again. This is another highlight of the film besides the Temptations' irresistible music.
