Synopsis of The Wind Rises

It was a turbulent era, with war, hunger, disease, and natural disasters. The shadow of death shrouded the world, but it could not block the light of dreams and hopes that flashed in our hearts. The ordinary Japanese boy Jiro Horikoshi (voiced by Hideaki Anno) is obsessed with flying airplanes. In his dream, he becomes friends with Italian aircraft designer Caproni (voiced by Nomura Mansai) and enjoys the fun of flying. During the horrific Great Kanto Earthquake, Erlang met his lifelong concern—Nahoko Satomi (voiced by Miori Takimoto). They met briefly, but missed him again in the disorderly chaos. Under the guidance of fate, Erlang, who is known as a genius, became an aircraft designer as he wished. He and his senior colleagues worked together to rack their brains to improve the performance of the aircraft. The advanced European design made them feel sad. On the other hand, they were full of contradictions to build a machine that combined dreams and killing attributes. He chases his dream and reunites with Naoko. In the turbulent Showa era, the pace never stopped amidst the turmoil... The film is based on the life story of Zero fighter designer Jiro Horikoshi and the novel of the same name by writer Hori Tatsuo.
