On November 13, 2007, with the promotion of the Hongdao Elderly Welfare Foundation, 17 elderly people with an average age of 81 began a 13-day motorcycle ride around the island. They started from Taichung and traveled south through Tainan and Kaohsiung. , Pingtung, Taitung, Hualien, Yilan, Taipei, and back to Taichung, the total distance is 1178 kilometers! Among the 17 elderly people, two had suffered from cancer, four needed hearing aids, and five had high blood pressure. They passed through the dangerous Suhua Highway on the way, and the team leader had to go in and out of the hospital three times, but they overcame the difficulties one by one. With a fearless heart and passionate actions, we completed this “impossible dream” in the eyes of outsiders. The life histories of the 17 elders are different. Some of them are from Taiwan, some came to Taiwan with the Kuomintang army, and their professions include police, veterans, pastors, calligraphy teachers, barbers, etc. What is more interesting is that some of them are from other provinces. Grandpa doesn't speak Taiwanese, but in order to communicate with his colleagues from this province, he speaks each other's language with a strong accent. The scene is really interesting. After a 13-day journey around the island, 16 grandfathers and 1 grandmother developed a relationship like family from strangers, and all of them said that they became younger and more energetic!
