In the Name of the Father

Synopsis of In the Name of the Father

this is a true story. Gary (Daniel Day-Lewis) lived in war-torn Northern Ireland at that time, when the Northern Ireland Republican Army was committed to opposing British colonial rule. Young Gary spent his days doing nothing, sneaking around, and unintentionally offended the Northern Ireland Republican Army. In desperation, his father (played by Pete Postlethwaite) can only send him to England to make a living in the world. Unexpectedly, Gary, who had just arrived in the UK, was framed as a terrorist of the Northern Ireland Republican Army by the local police who were eager to commit crimes. He also implicated his aunt's family in the UK and was imprisoned as terrorists. His father made petitions everywhere and was eventually imprisoned. Father and son suffered a lot in prison. It was not until many years later that a British female lawyer began to re-investigate this extremely ridiculous injustice. Can this unjust case be vindicated in the end, and can father and son be reunited?
